Rough Drafts to Final Drafts

7 Feb

Happy Friday, everyone!  Just wanted to check in, see how all the revisions were coming along!  Take your time, but yes.. know the Final Draft is due Wednesday February 12.  Please read it aloud to yourself, record it and listen to your own reading (if you can), just make sure you take the revision process seriously, and take full advantage of the week you have to perfect your first paper for the semester.

Right now, I enjoy a day of hooky, sipping a mocha, watching the rain, planning next week’s meetings.  Hope you all, at some point with how busy you are, take time to have moments like this– peace, restful, collective, Yours.  This is much of what allows strong writing, and meaningful reading…

Write well, and I’ll see you all Monday.

Yours,

Mike

I don’t have a thesis I am not good at writing them. If anyone could help that would be awesome.

In today’s Society body image is on everyone’s mind whether your fat or skinny. Everyone wants to look good and dress in a way to express themselves. Even though it may not be as strong as other the sense is still there. In Andre Dubus short story “The Fat Girl” Louise is a overweight girl who is happy the her body is. The only problem was her mother. At the young age of nine Louise’s mother told her, “You must start watching what you eat” (86). It always seems to start with a family member telling you, you’re fat you need to loose some weight or you are way to skinny you need to eat more. They always favor one over the other, why should body image be the reason why you love some one or not? Shouldn’t it be on your personality?
Many people in the world are more attracted to skinny or healthy girls, but there are some people who just like them as fat as they can get them. It quite interesting to see how that plays out in the outside world. In “The Fat Girl” Louise gets married while she is skinny and watching what she eats. She becomes pregnant after having her baby she refuse to loose weight and her husband lash back at her “I don’t want to touch you. Why should I? Have you looked at yourself?” (95) Her husband fell for the beauty she had while she was skinny not fat, he no longer wanted her.

    (Personal Experience)

I think it’s really interesting how there are not a lot of Americans talking about how many more overweight citizens we have. Everyone wants to focus on the negatives like how media pushes the “perfect” body women are suppose to have. If it really did effect us wouldn’t there be less over weight people? The adult obesity rate in 2013 is 27.2%, up from 26.2% in 2012, and is on pace to surpass all annual average obesity rates since Gallup-Healthways began tracking in 2008. Mc Donald’s, Burger King and Carl’s Jr., all seem to almost have the same commercials some women in a bikini washing a car and then eating a burger. I don’t even understand the marketing behind these commercials, that if you eat crap food you are going to be able to look like them? The problem is they are marketing for you to crap food that is not real food! People rather eat crap then real foods!
Media wants you to believe if you are beautiful, skinny, blonde and have huge boobs you will get everything you want. My favorite commercials are the ones where they are pushing you to buy a product that will get you sexual intercourse! Like Axe, the girls will come crawling for you if you use Axe body spray. It honestly makes younger girls think that is okay that is the norm. From a marketing stand of point they would not use these kinds of tackiest if it didn’t work. Media is pushing the image of skinny but a survey from Gallup shows something different. The percentage saying they would like to lose weight has dropped eight points since 2011. At the same time, the percentage trying to lose weight has dropped four points. Although the media is always bashing a celebrity saying something different about the same celebrity today she is so “skinny” and she was so “fat” yesterday so and so does not eat they are killing themselves. There is a difference from being unhealthy skinny and healthy skinny. Just like there is a difference from being average and fat.
